Cryptid #22: Storm Wipe

Class: Titan

Destruction Procedures: There is currently no known way to destroy or contain the storm. Finding a way to at least slow it down is of great priority.

Description: #22 is an anomalous thunderhead generally 3 square miles in size. 22 never dissipates, but always stays within the same region in the Midwest. It manifests lightning, thunder, and on occasion tornados of all categories. The storm has a memory wiping capability, directly tied to certain aspects of the storm, and have varying degrees of severity. Encounters with 22 often, but not always, end in death by asphyxiation. Bodies found after recovery always have a brain and nervous system weighing --% less than an average human’s. Theorized to be due to the collapse of neural connections. Aspects are as follows:

  • Pressure: although unconfirmed, it is hypothesized that the reason that people undergo memory loss even though they are inside of relatively safe structures is that the storms extremely low pressure counts as an aspect of the storm.  Affects short term memory quickest and most heavily, although exposure for prolonged periods is hypothesized to eventually effect long term memories and can lead to hypoxia. Symptoms of being affected can include loss of consciousness, cyanosis, retardation of mental power, slurred speech, and impaired focusing.

  • Rain: Most heavily tested aspect of the storm. Strips short term memory within 1 hour of direct skin exposure, leading to temporary amnesia of the past 12 hours. Long term memory loss begins within 3 hours, and a catatonic state in 10 hours. Death will result within 10-30 minutes if the person remains in the rain.

  • Lightning: The second most dangerous effect of the storm, and also the only one to cause physical damage. Any person hearing thunder from the lightning will suffer direct and immediate harm to their long-term memory. Even such basic learned tasks as walking and talking can be affected. Seeing lightning will cause a complete (or close to it) memory wipe. People affected have the mental capacity of a 5-month old child and lack object permanence.

  • Tornados:

Tornadoes: By far the most dangerous part of the storm. If within a tornado, it will immediately destroy all your memories outside of the storm.  For every person’s memory #22 destroys, the storm grows larger.

Journal recovered from a house trapped inside #22:

Anyway, the guy who got struck by lightning. Poor guy went into an instant coma and got left in the rain. Thing was, his head was covered so it’s not like he drowned. Best I can figure his body just forgot how to keep his heart beating.

Anyway, I’m the last one. At least as far as I remember, which doesn’t count for much. And I think I figured it out. It’s toying with us. Making people forget their mothers, just to watch. How funny would it be to make all the people at the hospital forget that they had work today and watch all the people who forgot how to drive have no one to treat them? Or even funnier, leave one surgeon and make him forget how to perform surgery. Or how about most hilarious if all, leave that surgeon the sole survivor in a wet hellscape. How fucking hilarious.

Notes:  The man was in fact not the sole survivor. In fact, most of the town had lived. But the storm decided to mess with him and let him believe he was the only one left.  This is a top priority. This uncontainable shitshow can’t be left alone. I don’t care if we have to get help, blow a hole in the atmosphere or what. This psychopathic shower or whatever you call it needs to be stopped”- Inner Circle Member {UNKNOWN}
