Cryptid #194 “Fool’s Gold”

Class: Gorgon

Destruction Procedures: If needed, object can be destroyed using any tool capable of crushing rocks. Using a Sledgehammer would work. Object #194 is currently safely stored in Archives Vault Z stored in a containment cell with memetic filters applied on observation windows, as it may come into use for the Coalition. Any personnel that enter 194’s area must have SCRAMBLE visors equipped.

Description: Object #194 is a spherical mineral deposit made primarily of pyrite, that can fit into the palm of a person’s hand, with "LOVE" inscribed on its surface. Whenever a human looks at the object, whether in person or through common media, they have the desire to obtain it. The effect grows over time and the affected subject is willing to go to larger lengths to obtain the object the longer the effect lasts until they take amnestics or touch the stone. If the latter occurs, the affected suddenly lose their desire and consider the stone useless.

Incident 1-194: #194 caused a disturbance when several low-level personnel viewed it without proper memetic filters and caused a riot which put – guards and researchers in the infirmary. Document updated in light of recent events.

Recovery Log: Cryptid #194 was found by one of our agents in a small village in eastern Europe. After excavation of a ruined Roman villa caused a minor uprising within the village. According to a local legend, a poor lumberjack found a stone in a river, created the inscription and gave the stone to his lover as he couldn't afford a more expensive present. He then thinks that the stone is made of gold (Note: chemical analysis confirmed the stone in fact consists purely of pyrite, or fool’s gold), took it away from the girl and used the stone for his own profit. The village elders hid the stone away after several murders were committed in order to obtain it.
