Cryptid #43: Bookworms

Class: Naiad

Destruction Procedures: Application of amnestics and destruction of all referential material is sufficient in containing outbreaks

Description: Bookworms are an effect of unknown origin. The effect seems to stem from written descriptions of small insects. When these descriptions are read, the reader will not only come under the impression that these insects infect the material that the description is written on. The reader will also be compelled to write further descriptions of the entities. The compulsion does not seem to extend to verbal descriptions or artistic representations.

Discovery: The effect was discovered following the attempted burning of a large library in [RESTRICTED], Pennsylvania. The arsonist gave an account of being plagued by the creatures to the point they could no longer continue normal life. It is theorized that because he frequented the library he continually read and wrote descriptions, causing him to be involved in the spreading of the effect several time over.

Reclassification to Gorgon being discussed.
