Cryptid #42: the Storybook God

Class: Gorgon

Destruction Procedures: #42 is to be kept in Standard Containment. Any new #42-2 instances are easily dispatched by means of small arms fire.

Description: The entity is a heavily tattooed child between the ages of 10-16 of varying race and gender. The entity also claims to be named T̛͟h̵̢̀óu̷̕͢r̸̡a҉̸.

The entity, referred to from here on by name [K͢o͏b̵͠ò̧], can create characters and items of importance from any written media, granted that said item or character is of great importance to their story of origin and the story itself is known to many people. Objects and characters manifested from the books seem to be weaker, or exhibit less power than their written counterparts. The instances seem to be distressed upon learning about that factor. Details of this phenomenon are under experiment logs 42-01 through 42-05.

Experiment 42-01:

Subject: one copy of Herman Melville’s Moby Dick, belonging to Researcher Ferris

Result: E͟͜ńţ̛i̶̧t̵y͠͏͜ was frightened of personnel at first, but mood greatly improved upon introduction of reading material. B̢̀͜a̴ŕrį̵l͝y̴̕ began reading the novel, researchers present at the time noticed what appeared to be words drifting off the pages onto the entity's forehead which faded seconds later. The words were identified as the exact words and sentences 042 was reading. Upon completion of the book, the entity proceeded to "pull" what appeared to be a physical representation of one of the book's characters, Captain Ahab, who approached coalition guards, was seen trying to vocalize.  He promptly dispatched by small arms fire. The instance of #042-2 then, instead of collapsing to the floor as expected, burst into a flurry of papers that, upon further investigation, appeared to be every page in the Moby Dick detailing the character.

Experiment 42-02:

Subject: one copy of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, from the staff library.

Result: Similar to 42-01, : E͟͜ńţ̛i̶̧t̵y͠͏͜ was calmed by the introduction of a book. She promptly began to read, words began drifting off the page onto the subjects body. Upon finishing the book, 042 manifests another 042-2 instance claiming to be Dracula. Personnel were evacuated from the testing chamber and observation continued. Contrary to details within the book, the 042-2 instance was barely stronger than the average human male, as evidenced by the 042-2 entity’s failed attempt to pry open the door to the testing chamber. Reviewing the security camera footage, the two-way mirror used for observation caused the 042-2 instance severe distress, as it could see a faint translucent reflection of itself. Instance terminated with small arms fire, whom then exploded into sheafs of papers from Dracula, describing the instance.

Experiment 42-03:

Subject: one copy of H.G. Well’s The Invisible Man, from the staff library.

Result: Upon finishing the book, 0̹ͥ̈́̇̀͝4͇̒ͨ̉ͧ͂̏͊2 ̷̛͙͉̝̐ͨ͟ manifested a translucent naked man. Upon realizing personnel could see it, the instance tried to escape, but was terminated by small arms fire. It collapsed, and turned fully visible before, once again, exploding into paper. When fully visible, the entity matched the description of the character, Griffin, from The Invisible Man.

Experiment 42-04

Subject: written lyrics to Marty Robbins’ Big Iron

Result: K͢o͏b̵͠ò̧ read the written lyrics whilst humming the tune of the song (it should be noted that sheet music was not included on the paper). Sheet music began drifting off the lyric sheet onto the subject’s arm.

Addendum 42-1:

Upon proofreading this document through memetic filters, it appears that the entity's name changes depending on the person reading. Members of ICC will review whether or not this could threaten the Corps usage of the entity known formerly known as E. Penthrall
